Subaru Wins a Silver Halo Award for Reducing Waste at National Parks

2019 Subaru Crosstrek | Beaverton, OR

Subaru has a well-earned reputation as an environmentally focused brand. Recently, those efforts earned the automaker a 2020 Silver Halo Award, which recognizes businesses that promote helpful social and environmental causes.

In collaboration with the National Parks Conservation Association, Subaru of America has furthered its “Don’t Feed the Landfills” initiative by launching recycling and composting programs at three of America’s most beloved parks — Denali, Grand Teton, and Yosemite. Since the pilot program began in 2015, it has diverted over 16 million pounds of waste from local landfills.

“Our national parks represent the very best of the American great outdoors, and we feel a responsibility to keep them clean and free of waste for future generations to enjoy,” remarked Alan Bethke, the Senior Vice President of Marketing for Subaru of America.

Theresa Pierno, President and CEO for the National Parks Conservation Association, says that the automaker’s zero-landfill practices have helped the park system learn more about the best way to implement recycling programs at the parks. She expressed that the NPCA hopes to implement these waste-reduction practices in parks nationwide.

Subaru Outback Named to Good Housekeeping’s List of New Family Cars for 2020

2020 Subaru Outback | Beaverton, OR

Every year, Good Housekeeping releases a list of the best new vehicles for families released that year. For the second time in a row, the Subaru Outback was awarded the title of the website’s Best Station Wagon.

In order to compile the list, Good Housekeeping’s editors evaluated nearly every facet of more than 50 vehicles and drove more than 5,000. According to the site, they look at everything from standard and available safety systems to how it is to install a child seat. The 2020 Subaru Outback wowed them in just about every way.

They heaped praise on the wagon’s “rugged exterior design,” as well as its comfortable, versatile passenger space and plentiful cargo room. Additionally, the Outback’s numerous standard driver-assist features like Forward Collision Warning, Automated Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control earned special notice.

Being named to Good Housekeeping’s list of Best New Family Cars for 2020 isn’t the only impressive accolade the Outback has earned in recent months. The iconic wagon was selected for Autotrader’s ranking of the best new cars on the market due to its balance of power, value, safety, and refinement.

Keep Your Car Healthy During the Quarantine

Keep Your Car Healthy During the Quarantine | Beaverton, OR

If you’re one of the many Americans who are staying in during the COVID-19 quarantine, you probably won’t be driving your car frequently. This can lead to some maintenance issues that you can easily prevent with a bit of knowledge and foresight. Here are a few tips to keep your car healthy during the quarantine.

Maintaining the battery

Even if your car is sitting completely still in the garage, its battery will still be losing its charge. This will happen quicker for vehicles with computerized infotainment systems, since those electronics will continue to drain a small amount of charge. You can maintain your car’s battery by running your car for 5-10 minutes per week. Just make sure you idle in a well-ventilated area.

Guarding your car’s gasoline

Gasoline can degrade in your vehicle’s fuel tank. While experts can’t agree how long gas will stay fresh inside the fuel tank, it’s a good idea to add a fuel stabilizer. This additive can ensure freshness for up to two years.

Brush up on brake care

When your car isn’t in use, the brakes can build up a coat of rust. This will result in noisy, turbulent braking. Prevent this buildup by going for a short ride every few days.

Pressure problems

Your car’s tires can also lose pressure during periods of inactivity, so the American Automobile Association recommends adding an extra 5-10 pounds of pressure before storing your vehicle. When it’s time to drive again, release a bit of air to return them to their usual pressure.

Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Subaru in Beaverton

Tips for Spring Cleaning | Beaverton, OR

Winter weather can do a number of your Subaru, so it’s important to give it a fresh cleaning during the spring. Follow these tips for spring cleaning your vehicle to keep both the exterior and interior in good condition.

Wash and wax

Take your Subaru to a car wash that participates in the WaterSavers® program to clean the exterior without being wasteful with water. If the car wash missed any spots, you can use a clay bar to remove additional dirt or grime. Then, you can apply wax to protect the paint and make your vehicle shine.

Wipe the glass

Be sure to wipe down glass surfaces in and out of your Subaru. When cleaning windows from the outside, wipe horizontally, and then wipe vertically from the interior. By using two different motions, you will be able to more easily tell which side of the glass has any streaks.

Utilize a vacuum

If you have floor mats in your cabin, remove them and clap them together to get rid of dirt. You can then vacuum the remaining dirt. If your vacuum has a brush tool, you can use that to clean off the dashboard, while you can use a crevice tool to clean the hard to reach places.

We at CARR Subaru have a well-equipped service department that can handle your seasonal maintenance. Stop by when you need repairs, replacements or routine services.

Safety with Subaru AWD

Safety with Subaru AWD

Shopping for a new car can be confusing with all the new available features, trims to choose from, and powertrain options. For those who live in the Portland, Oregon area, it’s important to remember that maintaining traction on your commute to work throughout the winter is a necessity. Front-wheel drive powertrains only deliver power to two wheels at a time, where all-wheel drive systems delivers power from the engine to all four tires simultaneously. If one or two tires slip, your all-wheel drive system will keep you going with the other two tires maintaining traction.

While many brands from Ford to Honda offer their vehicles standard in front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive available at a higher price tag, Subaru offers most of their major models standard in all-wheel drive, from their SUVs such as the Subaru Crosstrek, Ascent, Forester, and Outback, to their sedans such as the Legacy and Impreza. Keep your family safe with the benefits of all-wheel drive.

Subaru Corporate Impact Report

Subaru Corporate Impact Report
At CARR Subaru, we’re proud to be part of an automotive family that gives back, all of which is emphasized in the new Subaru Corporate Impact Report.

Year after year, Subaru has been committed to not only producing some of the most advanced vehicles available, but doing so in a sustainable and responsible way. At CARR Subaru, we’re proud to be part of an automotive family that prioritizes helping communities, families, and the entire planet, all of which is emphasized in the new Subaru Corporate Impact Report.

The 2019 Corporate Impact Report was the first such release from Subaru and it includes details about all of the ways the company has given back recently. Specifically, the document outlines all of the impressive things Subaru customers and dealerships have been able to accomplish as a result of the automakers responsible business practices.

Not surprisingly, the document is packed with some stunning statistics. For instance, Subaru has cut 71 percent of its energy usage per square foot in American plants recently, has effectively eliminated 3.9 million bottles of waste, and has helped keep 4.5 million pounds of trash out of landfills.

When it comes to directly giving back, Subaru goes above and beyond. The brand has raised $4 million for the community near Camden, New Jersey and has donated $153,700,000 through the brand’s “Share the Love” program. And all of this was made possible by the volunteer efforts of Subaru employees, who have clocked 34,000 hours of volunteer time.
