How to Safely Transport a Paddleboard in Your Subaru

How to Safely Transport a Paddleboard in Your Subaru | Beaverton, OR

If you love paddleboarding or want to learn, the Beaverton area is full of great spots for this fun sport, including the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and George Rogers Park on Lake Oswego. To get you started, here are some tips on how to transport your paddleboard safely atop your Subaru Forester, Outback, or other model.

Take advantage of the roof rack

Subaru SUV models come standard or available with raised roof rails, which are a must for transporting a paddleboard. If you opt for an Outback, those rails will also include integrated and retractable cross bars that you can use to tie down your board.

Add helpful Subaru accessories

If your Subaru SUV isn’t already equipped with roof cross bars for transporting a paddleboard, these are easy to add. Contact us here at CARR Subaru and we’ll help you order and install Aero or Thule® cross bars sold by Genuine Subaru Accessories. You can also order a specialized Thule® paddleboard carrier with room for two boards.

Protect and secure your board

To protect and secure your board on top of your Subaru Forester, Outback, or Ascent, you’ll need a few key pieces of equipment. A paddleboard bag will protect your board from the elements, and locking cargo straps will keep it from flying off the roof. The Thule® carrier comes with a built-in locking mechanism and protective padding to keep your board even more secure.

Subaru Safety | Beaverton, OR
Subaru 2022 Top Safety Pick

We’ve always known that Subaru is one of the safest car brands, but it’s nice to get validation. Subaru has recently won six 2022 Top Safety Pick awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the industry’s benchmark for road car safety.

Of the six vehicles honored by the IIHS, an impressive four earned the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award: the 2022 Subaru Ascent, Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, Subaru Legacy, and Subaru Outback. The remaining award winners were the Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Impreza five-door.

All of these nameplates are recurring winners in the annual Top Safety Pick evaluations. The Legacy, Impreza, and Outback have each won the award for 14 years running or more. The Crosstrek Hybrid has won TSP+ recognition for four consecutive years. In fact, Subaru has received a whopping 61 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards since 2013, more than any other brand.

“We are thrilled to receive six IIHS awards for our 2022 model lineup,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and Chief Executive Officer, Subaru of America, Inc. “Our top priority is to provide customers with vehicles made to the highest standards in safety.”

Tips for Transporting Holiday Dinner in Your Subaru

From Easter, Passover, and Ramadan to Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day, the spring calendar is full of holidays — and opportunities to share meals with friends and loved ones. If you’ve been called on to bring a dish of your own to the next big holiday gathering, here’s how you can safely transport that food so it reaches its destination in ready-to-eat condition.

Carrying a slow cooker or heavy pan

If you’re loading your Subaru Outback or Forester with a heavy Easter ham or a full slow cooker, a few precautions are in order. Make sure these items are securely covered with lids and wrapped in towels to prevent spills. To keep heavy or hot foods from presenting danger in the cabin, place them on the floor behind the seats or secure them with bungee cords in the cargo area.

Carrying casserole dishes or cold food items

Casserole dishes and cold food items in your Subaru Ascent or Legacy should also be well-wrapped and covered. For casseroles, you can even purchase specially insulated travel carriers to keep food secure. If you’re carrying fragile or easily spillable foods like pies or salads, you can load them into a laundry basket and use towels as lining and padding to keep items from shifting. For foods that need to stay chilled, you may need a cooler filled with ice.

Does your spring holiday journey involve long distances? Be sure to visit our service department here at CARR Subaru in Beaverton, Oregon, to prep your vehicle with scheduled maintenance or a pre-trip tune-up.

New Subaru BRZ Wins Edmunds Top Rated Sports Car Award

A great sports car doesn’t have to be an expensive one, and that’s one of the biggest reasons why the 2022 Subaru BRZ is this year’s Edmunds Top Rated Sports Car.

According to Edmunds, the 2022 BRZ excels by combining powerful performance, nimble handling that’s superior to much more expensive models, and a price tag that makes it accessible to a wider range of thrill-seeking drivers.

Edmunds doesn’t hand out Top Rated awards lightly — each year, it tests more than 300 models and racks up more than 500,000 test-drive miles on both the road and the track.

The 2022 BRZ shone brightly in these conditions, showing off a new naturally aspirated 228-horsepower engine, an upgraded and stiffened chassis, and a new set of high-performance summer tires. Add a starting MSRP of $27,995, and it’s no wonder the BRZ stood out.

“We are thrilled that the BRZ was recognized by Edmunds as the Top Rated Sports Car for 2022,” said Thomas J. Doll, Subaru of America’s president and CEO. “It’s our mission as an automaker to develop vehicles that consumers not only can trust, but can also have a great time driving, and the BRZ does just that.”

To find out for yourself why the 2022 BRZ is such an incredible sports car, stop in for a test drive here at CARR Subaru in Beaverton, Oregon.

How to Reduce Vehicle Expenses in the New Year

Reduce Vehicle Expenses | Beaverton, OR

From monthly payments to repairs to insurance and fuel costs, there’s no denying that car ownership in Beaverton, Oregon, can get expensive. If you’re looking to reduce vehicle expenses in 2022, these tips are a great place to start.

Get the service you need

Keeping up with service for your vehicle might not seem like a savings strategy, but it can really pay off in the long run. Getting regular oil changes and tire rotations, new filters, and other scheduled maintenance at CARR Subaru in Beaverton will keep your vehicle running smoothly for more years, improve its efficiency, and prevent expensive breakdowns.

Save money on fuel

If you do a lot of driving, gas costs are sure to take a big bite out of your budget. To fight back, try easing up — following the speed limit, accelerating more gently, and braking more gradually will help your vehicle consume less fuel. Other efficiency-improving strategies include carpooling to work, eliminating unnecessary trips, and making sure your tires stay inflated at the recommended level.

Revisit your insurance coverage

In 2022, you may be able to save money by reviewing your auto insurance coverage. Shop around online to find out if other insurers offer more favorable rates. If you’d prefer to stick with your current insurer, make sure you’re not paying for more coverage than you need — and check to see if there are any discounts you’re missing out on.

From the entire team here at CARR Subaru, we wish you a Happy New Year and a 2022 filled with savings on your vehicle expenses!

Fall Safety Tips for Drivers in Oregon

2021 Subaru Crosstrek | Beaverton, OR

Fall in Beaverton and the Portland region can be a beautiful time of year, full of vibrant autumn leaves and crisp temperatures. It’s also a season for taking safety seriously when you’re out on Oregon roads. Following these fall safety tips behind the wheel will help you enjoy a safe and stress-free fall.

Keep watch for kids

With children back in class, make sure you stay extra alert and cautious near school buses, school zones, and anywhere else you might encounter kids while driving.

Look out for deer

Thanks to hunting season and the changing weather, deer are especially active in Oregon this time of year. Drive carefully and keep watch in wooded areas so you don’t hit one that’s crossing the road.

Be aware of fall changes

In fall, the weather gets wetter, the sun sets earlier, and fallen leaves can make for slippery driving. Staying aware and maintaining good driving habits as you travel will help you safely navigate these changes.

Get a tune-up

Fall is a great time to get your vehicle tuned up. Purchase new windshield wipers, have your brakes and headlights checked, and make sure your tires are properly inflated and in good condition.

We love fall here at CARR Subaru in Beaverton, and we want it to be a great season for you, too. Stop in soon to get expert service for your current vehicle or to test-drive a shiny new Subaru.
